“I’m Batman”

January 17, 2025 by PamelaRickard

I find social media to be helpful, entertaining, distracting, but not essential in all forms. I would consider myself an introvert. Shocker right? Someone who finds peace, joy and fulfillment locked inside a time machine sized Whisper Room for hours on end talking to themselves does sound like that type. Anyway, what I’m trying to admit is that maybe Social Media isn’t all bad. Aside from showing me exactly what I need to buy, it also shows the world how weird and possibly unique my skills are and where I fit in the puzzle of life. I think the trick is being unapologetically sincere about who you are.

This brings me to my point. When I got back into acting via voiceover I decided to dive head first into the swimming pool of classes, workshops, audition sites and networking events available to me. I met other actors, teachers, and fellow awkward but lovely spirits of a kindred nature and auditioned for EVERYTHING I could. I was mostly learning specific skills for auditioning because that is truly a beast of a skill to do well. The job is a cake walk after you go through THAT grueling process. To be clear, it was a blast. Classes are so much fun and low pressure, then the work began.

I started to get some gigs for VO and on-camera but I was still sharpening my skills to compete at higher levels. I began to post my work, sending it out into the void, and it turned out people were listening. Actual people, like awesome creative artists that wanted to work with me. I’ve gotten to work with Hyperfrost Productions on some really fun characters. Check out the Youtube link of my Liberty Belle dub (she’s a “super” patriotic teenager that possesses the powers to save America from evil-doers). But I am super proud of my recent project voicing Bruce Wayne as an 8-year-old in Batman Exordium, animated and directed by Coulter Rail. The trailer is beautiful and exciting. The links for those are on my page. More voiceover and acting videos are on my Instagram and Youtube.

Well until next time, live long and prosper.

Imagination

February 27, 2023 by PamelaRickard

This year has been productive and life-changing as I’ve begun to dive deeper into imaginary worlds.  My imagination is a starving beast that needs to be fed…often.  That’s why I devoted everything in my power to support my growth and career as a voice actor/actor.

I was intimidated to explore improv and piano but studying both, I’ve witnessed the fruits of my labor grow from seed to flower.  I created characters for various dubs, played the lead and her doppelgänger in a game for DigiMight, did a promo for iHeartMedia, and another radio spot for EzCater. It has been an amazing year.

I’m represented for voiceover with J Pervis out of Atlanta, MCVO in Boston and East Coast Talent for on-camera.  I’m super busy, but I like it that way.

2023 is gonna rock!

Nothing Comes From Nothing

May 19, 2022 by PamelaRickard

Nothing comes from nothing…

That quote from King Lear resonated with me. Lear meant it in a sort of selfish way and banishes his faithful daughter, Cordelia, for speaking the truth. Hard to love that one.

I always try to find the truth in the character I portray even if that requires a bit of substitution. With any art form, the brilliance is in the details. Those little glimmers of humanity that connect us and remind us that we are not alone.

Nothing meaningful comes without investment and preparation. Success is more rewarding if I’ve worked hard to achieve it. Mom was right about that one. Luck may present opportunities, but those paths aren’t sustainable without diligence and passion for the work.

Focusing on the vocal aspect of acting allows me more creative freedom than being limited by my physical appearance on stage or in film. This year I’ve taken multiple classes, one-on-ones, workshops in Commercial, Animation, Narration, and Trailer/Promo. It is a healthy obsession and I’ve met amazing people through these classes and at the Atlanta Voiceover Conference.

The best part is the simple truth that I love stepping into my home recording space and turning on the “On Air” sign and I look forward to the future it brings.
